Greek Shipping Awards 2017

January 17, 2019

In November 2017, Maran Tankers was awarded Tanker Operator of the Year at the prestigious Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards held in Athens. In accepting the award, Maria Angelicoussis made a short speech: “Over the last two years Maran Tankers has undergone a dynamic period of growth and modernisation which, I believe, we have successfully navigated through.

We have had a large fleet expansion of 23 new buildings and have secured ten long-term charters with two oil majors. At the same time, we have continued to be at the forefront of new technology, pushing for our vessels to be the most environmentally friendly ships on the water today.

Whilst there is no doubt that the quality of the vessels we operate has contributed to establishing our reputation as a first-class tanker company, the key driver has been the people at Maran Tankers, without whom none of this would have been possible.

They are professional, dedicated and loyal, and are working together as a team. They are what makes Maran the company it is today.

However, their ability to operate so effectively is only possible because of the support from other departments in our group and our global network of offices. I have left until last the most important factor in this equation; our crew. They are, to quote my father“the unsung heroes of our organisation”.

Our fleet expansion isn’t just about acquiring new ships, but also about training and developing the next generation of Greek seafarer. I am immensely proud to accept this award on behalf of every single member of the ASGL Group.”

It was stated by the judges that the activities of Maran Tankers in late 2016 and 2017 were so significant that they could not be ignored, and, in their opinion, Maran Tankers stood out as the obvious Tanker Operator 2017 winner.
