Our fleet expands on shore
In order to meet our expanding needs, the Angelicoussis Group decided to construct a new central headquarters for Maran Tankers Management Inc., Maran Dry Management Inc., Maran Gas Maritime Inc. as well as the Ioannis and Antonis Angelicoussis Foundation. The new building includes office space, a training centre with simulators, an amphitheatre, a museum, a library, an indoor pool, gym, restaurant and much more. The development has been designed to improve the health and wellbeing of our local staff, as well as to provide support to our seafarers who will use improved, state-of-the-art training facilities during their training at headquarters. This new headquarters demonstrates our company’s commitment to providing world-class services that exceed safety and environmental requirements through continuous improvement and innovation. We are not only providing a safe, healthy and rewarding workplace but are also leading industry standards by improving energy efficiency and optimizing human performance.
Designing an iconic landmark In 2010 it became clear that the growing demands of the administration and operational support for our vessels would be best served by a single, state-of-theart facility located in Kallithea. Having assessed our needs, we held a two-stage architectural competition, inviting the best architectural practices in Greece to present their ideas on the best solution for our needs. The winning design of the second round was the iconic building designed by Rena Sakellaridou – SPARCH – which draws inspiration from a voyage to the sea and the desire to reach.
The building itse lf gives the impression of moving through water. We were aiming for a contemporary and timeless building with distinct architectural quality and strong presence that would become a landmark for the city. Constructing our future The key design and construction challenges were the very high standards concerning material quality, quality of detail, technical standards and sustainability requirements; many of which have been used in Greece for the very first time, making this project so exceptional and innovative. Construction began in 2013 and we made the decision to design and construct the new headquarters in accordance with one of the most challenging international standards for green buildings – the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). This decision guaranteed that both design and construction works would provide a healthy, productive, efficient and rewarding work place; and conserve energy, water and other resources. Fit out of the internal parts of the building began in 2015 and the new headquarters will be officially handed over to us by May 2018.
