1947


The Angelicoussis Group has a well-established track record in shipping dating back to 1947. Antonis I. Angelicoussis founded the business in 1947.

1948


The first ocean going cargo vessel was acquired in 1948. The MV Astypalea (356 GRT) was built in 1936 by Smith’s Dock Co Ltd.

1965


The first newbuilding, a 68,834 DWT bulk carrier, was ordered, at Ishikawajima – Harima Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Japan. The ship was delivered in May 1968 and named MV Afovos and placed under Greek flag.

1985


Between 1968 and 1985, 28 newbuildings were ordered at IHI, Japan compromising of Fortune, Friendship, Freedom and Future type bulk carriers.

1993


John A. Angelicoussis, who had joined the company in 1973, ordered the first 5 capesize bulk carriers at Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. At the time, these were the largest bulk carriers ever ordered by a Greek shipowner.

2000


John A. Angelicoussis decided to move into the tanker segment and between 1996 and 2000, ordered Aframaxes, Suezmaxes and VLCCs. The MV Maria A. Angelicoussis was the first newbuilding VLCC delivered to the Group by Daewoo in 2000.

2003


John A. Angelicoussis, following his initiative, ordered the first LNG carrier, the Maran Gas Asclepius, and founded Maran Gas Maritime, the LNG ship management arm of the Group.

2008


Maria I. Angelicoussis joined the Group and she is daily involved in all Group business aspects since, along her father, John A. Angelicoussis.

2021


Maria I. Angelicoussis takes over from her father as CEO of Angelicoussis Group.
